BME Cancer Communities is a Charitable Incorporarted Organisation (CIO) specialising in the support, development and delivery of BME specific cancer services and provision for UK BME communities affected by cancer.
Our Mission is:
To address cancer inequalities within black and minority ethnic(BME)and low income communities through the development and delivery of relevant services including:
- Raising BME cancer awareness in the community and amongst health professionals;
- Addressing cancer related health inequalities currently affecting BME communities;
- Empowering BME community members to make informed choices about available supportive services;
- Supporting staff in health and social care services, who work with BME community members affected by cancer;
- Signposting BME health workers and health service providers to appropriate supportive services, and relevant BME cancer related evidence;
- Building an effective long-term BME community based, community led amd community driven service; to develop and provide culturally sensitive and appropriate cancer resources;
- Developing and producing related evidence via surveys and research; and
- Influencing positive changes in UK healthcare services.
Our Team
Our principal founders include a BME Cancer Information Specialist/Consultant who is a qualified radiotherapy radiographer with over 30 years experience of working in the NHS and the voluntary sector. She has worked with diverse ethnic groups affected by cancer and advises leading public bodies including major cancer charities, and the Department of Health. Our advisors are professionals with expertise across a wide range of public and voluntary sector service; community and professional volunteers are valued and involved in the delivery of our services.
